The main options are:-
Skytrain- if it runs to near to you or your destination is a great way to travel. Its very well air conditioned and a cool relief in hot weather.Especially good and fast when the roads are conjested, which is often! Use in combination with other means of transport below.
Metered Taxis- known as "Taximeters". Air conditioned so cool in hot weather. They can be slow in times of traffic conjestion but you get used to that. Costs are suprisingly cheap with minimum fare being Bt.35 or around 1$ US. Always watch to see that the driver switches on the meter at the start of the journey. Point to it and say "meter". If he refuses to switch it on, make him stop the car and get out as its a scam to charge you whatever he says ie Bt200 instead of the meter reading of say Bt55. When you get out there will always be another Taxi along in seconds.
Tuktuks- Smelly, hot, noisy forms of transport which can be great fun. They can be expensive because they do not have meters and the driver can charge what he wants. Always agree the price before you get into the tuktuk.
Finally- motor bike taxis- no photos of these. You are simply a pillion passenger on the back of a motorbike. Not for the faint hearted or those that have never been on a motorbike. Often a very scary ride but perhaps the fastest way around the city at times of congestion. Always agree the price before setting off
And the darned Tuktuk photos wont load so I'll have to add those later!
