Walking Street is the most amazing entertainment Street in Asia. It is about 800 Yds long with property on both sides of the Street. One side of the Street is built on stilts above the beach and sea at high tide though you wouldn’t know it.
It is called Walking Street because it was probably the first street in Thailand to be temporarily closed to vehicles each day. Vehicles are banned from 7pm until 3am. If you do forget and leave your car or motorbike parked there after time, it will be towed away by the police.
There are large numbers of open fronted bars and a large number of closed fronted air conditioned agogo bars on the Street.
So whats an agogo? It’s a bar where they have dancers, usually on a raised central platform, usually hanging on to chrome poles, usually very beautiful and sexy, usually very scantily clad and some times they are naked and often there are very sexy shows.
The degree of scant clothing or nakedness and the extreme or mild nature of the shows seems to depend on who is in charge of the country at the time. Currently there is a policy of covering up naked bodies but some owners do deals with the police and things get back to their raunchy normal. At the moment it’s very difficult to know where the best is at any given moment, as all of them change so fast.
There are one or two good websites that monitor whats going on in the girlie agogos from week to week.
In addition to the bars and agogos, there are also some very good restaurants, both in the Street and in some of the side streets.
When in Walking Street, take reasonable precautions against pickpockets as you can sometimes be making your way through some crowded areas if there are a lot of tourists in town..
