So i understand all men in Thailand over 21 are fair game for conscription into the Royal Armed Forces.

All Thai men aged 21 are expected to present themselves at their village ( I think village) on a due date. There is a quota system or a percentage system as you will. A certain percentage out of those elligible will be chosen for military service by a lottery , drawn in the village by the local officials.

Those that consider themselves unfit because of illness or disability present themselves to the doctor who is present. They are examined and if thought unfit, they are rejected from the lottery. One group of people considered to have a disability are ladyboys. They are examined physically and interviewed by the doctor to determine if they genuinely are ladyboys or someone just wanting to avoid military service.
